SocialVegan Special - “Milk” Tea Flavour Vegan Gelato

Available from 1 March 2019 at Holly Brown (Central and Lai Chi Kok branch)

After learning of the lack of delicious vegan gelato in Hong Kong from the picky icecream eaters (clearly including me cough cough), the Holly Brown team has set about creating vegan gelato for all of us SocialVegans! They started with the classic flavours of chocolate and vanilla using soy milk, which many of you have tried and loved, and they have now crafted this masterpiece of “Milk” Tea gelato! Made using natural ingredients and a base of oat milk and soy milk, Holly Brown has created a creamy, “ mylky” and scrumptious "milk" tea flavour vegan gelato, made entirely from plants. Thank you Holly Brown for making our dream come true!

Vegan waffle bowls are now available too. Trust me, they go so well with the vegan gelato that you can’t stop craving for more!

Past Projects

18-19 July 2019

So honoured to be part of this innovative plant-based experience. Chef Adrian Wu and Chef Pamela from Sow Vegan have come together to create eight beautiful art pieces on the dining table. The theme was Overlay - Palate on Palette with one colour taking over each dish - black, white, red, brown, clear, yellow, purple. The most surprising ingredients coming together to create both harmonious and astonishing flavours - savoury and tangy, bittersweet and peppery, zesty and nectarous.

Chef Pamela is known for her delicate fusion vegan creations with local and seasonal ingredients. With her brainchild Sow Vegan, she has impressed many with her creative menus, weaving together western influence from her formal training at Cordon Bleu in London and the Asian culture where she comes from. Her footprint has also extended to South Korea where she cohosts vegan pop-up dining with local chefs.

Chef Adrian, a seasoned vegan chef originally from Taiwan, is a big believer of free will and self-empowerment. With a curious mind, he has always infused an element of wanderlust into his life, never ceasing to learn and share wherever he is. Paris, Vienna, Taipei and Hong Kong are some of his favourite playgrounds. He is a well-loved pastry chef and instructor and his originality makes him a sought-after culinary consultant, particularly for the more adventurous F&B establishments.

SocialVegan is very honoured to be part of this project. This time we have taken up a new challenge - theme design and copywriting. Working with the two creative and open-minded chefs is just such a bliss! And so cool seeing the actual menu with our work! Congratulations once again to our two amazing chefs, and can’t wait for more of these in Hong Kong and abroad! Stay tuned!

The dinner was hosted at Test Kitchen, Shop 3, Kwan Yick Building Phase 3, 158A Connaught Rd W, Sai Ying Pun.

With SocialVegan founder Helen Mak

SocialVegan's first ever live interview! Everyone has a story to tell, so does SocialVegan herself. While being quite a private person, SocialVegan has found a platform that she finds comfortable sharing her story - none other than the legendary Breakfast with Bobsy series. She is very honoured to be part of this series with many others who are striving to make Hong Kong, to make the world a better place. As Bobsy said, we are creating an archive of the stories of the social disruptors in our society. To capture this moment in time, our vision, our struggles, our thoughts. (So weird to be talking about myself from the third-person point of view but too shy to do it any other way!)

Vegan Christmas Buffet Dinner and Movie Screening “The Last Pig”

15 Dec 2018 (Sat)

Christmas is the time for cuddles, for compassion, for getting to discover the beautiful souls around you (humans as well as animals!) The event was hosted at Pop Up by Social Club, a venue that in many ways represents openness and dialogue. We had a homey vegan Christmas dinner with traditional Latvian dishes prepared by Mayse Artisan Bakery, followed by a short documentary The Last Pig. The film took us through the self-reflection and struggles of a pig farmer in a lyrical meditative way (not a slaughterhouse film!) And of course, lots of chats and conversations throughout the event! Thank you everyone for making this happen!

This event was hosted at Pop Up by Social Club, Shop A, China Hong Kong Tower, 8-12 Hennessy Rd, Wan Chai
